Profile for Student Assistants – Quantum Inspire

By                          : Peter Verhoeff, Richard Versluis
Date                      : 18 March 2021

Introduction
Quantum Inspire (QI) is the first quantum computing platform in Europe available through internet for anybody. Furthermore it is the first platform that gives access to two qubit technologies (Spin- and Transmon qubit). Quantum Inspire is a product of QuTech, a collaboration between Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) and the Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research (TNO) and creating quantum technologies. A lively community of scientists, engineers and industry work closely together to create a fault-free quantum computer, enable quantum communication and develop quantum devices. Within this community, QuTech also drives commercialization of the technology together with its partners.

The project has a number of activities that are suitable to be executed by Student Assistants,  studying in the faculties of Applied Sciences (AS) or Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Sciences (EEMCS) and interested in Quantum Technology. Please do not hesitate to contact us to learn about the capabilities.

Requested support
In the Quantum Inspire project, there are various tasks that can be performed by Student Assistants. We envisage the tasks to be taken up by two Student Assistants working part time, each of them working 12 – 16 hours per week. A summary of tasks is given in the next section, the distribution of the tasks can be done in mutual agreement. More ideas are emerging and will be worked out in additional tasks to be requested, but the tasks described below are a good starting point for two Student Assistants.

More information on the ongoing development can be obtained via the project team, see contact detail below.

Task description
  • Maintenance and improvement of the Quantum Inspire Knowledge Base
    (see www.quantum-inspire.com);
  • Monthly report delivery on the statistics of the usage of Quantum Inspire (report of new users, jobs executed etc.);
  • Moderation of user forum for Quantum Inspire (this user forum is projected to become active in the course of 2021);
  • Provide user support to Quantum Inspire users, including providing update e-mails to users
  • (Assisting in) improving the calibration of the system;
  • (Assisting in) setting up a library/collection of use cases for Quantum Inspire;
  • (Assisting in) setting up connections with 3rd party providers for Quantum Inspire (e.g. by testing functionality and performance of software from non-QuTech providers which could be useful for Quantum Inspire);
  • (Assisting in) conferences presentations, outreach events to showcase Quantum Inspire.
